Westworld Season 2

Well the wait is finally over, Westworld returned for its second season on April 22nd and as of right now, we’re already four episodes into the new season. Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes and has already been renewed by HBO for a third season.

The main topic of our discussion, is Robert Ford actually dead or is he still lurking behind the scenes?

westworld season 2

HBO: Westworld Season 2

In episode 4, Ford delivers a message to William through Lawrence’s daughter, warning William that one good deed doesn’t redeem him. This is in reference to William and Lawrence having overpowered the Confederados and killing Major Craddock who had taken over Lawrence’s home.

We  also discover that William was working to recreate the consciousness of James Delos in a host body to achieve immortality. We see this through a series of flashbacks, but the experiment failed repeatedly causing William to shut it down. Bernard remembers that Ford had him retrieve a second control unit for another human-host hybrid, but he can’t remember who it was intended for.

Could it be possible that this second control unit was intended for Robert Ford and that we saw a host get gunned down by Dolores at the end of the first season instead of the real Ford? Only time will tell, but we’d love to hear what our viewers think?

Let us know if you think Ford is still pulling strings behind the scenes or if he is gone for good?

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Next we’ll be talking about Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man. So far it looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp will be taking place before Avengers: Infinity War and after the events of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scott Lang finds himself balancing his life as a superhero, with his personal life as a father. Hope Van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym come to him with an urgent mission, forcing Ant-Man to join forces with The Wasp to unlock secrets from their past.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

While the film will see the return of familiar faces from the first Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp will also have some new characters making an appearance played by actors like Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Walton Goggins. Today we’ll be discussing who some of these new characters are. Let’s start with…

Jimmy Woo

ant-man and the wasp

Jimmy Woo is an F.B.I. Agent turned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and will be played by actor Randall Park. Recent photos of him on set suggest he’ll be responsible for keeping a close eye on Scott Lang, who has taken a house arrest deal following the events of Civil War. There is no doubt that some sort of conflict will arise between Jimmy Woo and Scott when Scott is called back into action.

It’s still unclear how significant his character will be in the film.

Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath

ant-man and the wasp

Laurence Fishburne will be stepping into the role of Dr. Bill Foster, also known as Goliath. He is Dr. Hank Pym’s former assistant on Project Goliath. The project which once allowed Foster to grow to a size of 21 feet as we discovered in the most recent trailer. Goliath has the ability to change in size and increase his strength.

When Scott, Hope, and Hank come to Foster for help, he will either help the team with safely getting in and out of the Quantum Realm, or with defeating the films antagonist.

Sonny Burch

ant-man and the wasp

Sonny Burch will be played by Walton Goggins, and with Darren Cross having been killed off at the end of the first film. It appears Burch will be stepping up to try and claim Pym’s technology and research for himself.

The character first appeared in Marvel Comics in 2003 as an antagonist of Iron Man. Although his character was short lived in the comics, his connection to Cross Technologies has given his on-screen counterpart the opportunity to make an appearance.

Ghost

ant-man and the wasp

Ghost is another character who first appeared in the comics as an enemy of Iron Man, and not Ant-Man, back in 1987. His character was the owner of the suit that allowed him to turn invisible, in addition to being a master hacker who is also proficient with all sorts of dangerous weapons.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the character will undergo a gender swap thanks to the casting of Hannah John-Kamen. Based on the trailer, it looks like she’ll develop the ability to phase through objects after coming into contact with one of Pym’s technologies. However, her ultimate goals are still unknown.

Janet Van Dyne

ant-man and the wasp

Michelle Pfeiffer is set to bring Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp and Hank Pym’s wife, to life in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Aside from the conflict that will arise from Ant-Man and the Wasp facing off against Sonny Burch and Ghost, it’s rumored that the main focus of the film will be making it into the Quantum Realm to find and rescue Janet.

This is a big moment for fans everywhere who have been waiting for Janet to be introduced into the MCU. Her arrival is sure to include some major complications after spending years alone in the Quantum Realm.

There’s a lot to look forward to when Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters on July 6th 2018.

Which character are you most excited to see brought to life in the film? Let us know in the comments below.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 3 and 4

Our last topic is Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3 is set after the events that took place in Avengers: Age of Ultron when public opinion about superheroes starts to shift in a different direction. The Avengers themselves become fragmented and this first becomes apparent with the events that took place in Captain America: Civil War.

During this time we see the introduction of several new characters including Doctor Strange, Mantis, Spider-Man, Valkyrie, and Black Panther. The last new hero to be introduced in Phase 3 will be Captain Marvel with the films release next year. Phase 3 consists of the following Marvel films:

-Captain America: Civil War
-Doctor Strange
-Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
-Spider-Man: Homecoming
-Thor: Ragnarok
-Black Panther
-Avengers: Infinity War

Ant-Man and the Wasp will be the last MCU film to be released this year that is a part of Phase 3. Next years Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 will bring Phase 3 to a close, which leaves us wondering what lies ahead for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 4?

Phase 4 begins in 2019 after the conclusion of Avengers 4. The first film slated to be released in Phase 4 will be the sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. After that, there are nine films scheduled to be released between 2020 and 2022 at a rate of three films per year.

We do know that of those films, we can expect the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Black Widow, and The Eternals.

James Gunn did confirm that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be one of the films released in 2020.

Blu-Ray Recommendation

Black Panther

This month’s recommendation is Marvel’s Black Panther directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan.

Black Panther is about T’Challa, the King of Wakanda and his rise to power in the isolated and technologically advanced African nation. Before long, his claim to the throne is challenged by a vengeful outsider who as a child suffered the consequences of T’Challa’s father’s mistakes.

We recommend Marvel’s Black Panther because it gives audiences a brand new take on the superhero genre. It also introduces us to exciting new characters that are both lovable and complex. This is a never before seen side of the MCU and we know audiences and fans alike won’t be disappointed.
