Here are a few details on our main topic in today’s episode, however, make sure to watch the video to hear what we liked and didn’t like from Oblivion Song, Gideon Falls and Shattered Grid.
Oblivion Song
Are you a fan of the Walking Dead? Well the Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is back with a new series from Image Comics called Oblivion Song. You are going to definitely want to pick this new series up. A few things we really liked about this first issue is that the art really captures you and sucks you into this new world. Another thing we liked is that the first issue was different than we expected. We thought this was going to be another post-apocalyptic world but it’s actually an alien dimension that our main character is traveling back and forth from.
Here is a brief synopsis from Image Comics on Oblivion Song
A decade ago, 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them, but after many years, they gave up. Nathan Cole…won’t. He makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue those still living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe…Nathan is looking for something else? Why can’t he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?
Gideon Falls
If you haven’t read anything by Jeff Lamire yet, then Gideon Falls is a great jumping on point. This is a story that he has been working on for over 20 years, and he writes a really cool letter at the end of issue #1 explaining all of this. It’s an interesting, dark new series that follows this mystery surrounding this city Gideon Falls. By the end of the first issue you really want to find out if our main character, Norton, is actually crazy or not!
Here is a brief synopsis from Image Comics on Gideon Falls
A brand-new ongoing series from the acclaimed bestselling creative team of Old Man Logan and Green Arrow! The lives of a reclusive young man obsessed with a conspiracy in the city’s trash, and a washed-up Catholic priest arriving in a small town full of dark secrets, become intertwined around the mysterious legend of The Black Barn, an otherworldly building that is alleged to have appeared in both the city and the small town, throughout history, bringing death and madness in its wake. Rural mystery and urban horror collide in this character-driven meditation on obsession, mental illness, and faith.
Shattered Grid – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Shattered Grid is the new story arc from Boom Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and will also tie into Go Go Power Rangers. Starting on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, we see a new multiverse story about an evil Ranger from the Drakkon Universe who is out to kill all the Power Rangers throughout time and space.
Personally, we here at My Comic Universe haven’t really kept up to date on either of these Power Rangers titles from Boom Studios, but this new story arc is the perfect jumping on point! By the end of reading of the first issue of this story arc (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25), you won’t believe what you just read, and you won’t be able to wait to read the next part! Everything you knew about the Power Rangers will be changed from this story arc and it will affect all Power Rangers in every dimension!
Here is a brief synopsis of Shattered Grid
POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID will unfold in issues from both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers and include two special one-shots. Lord Drakkon—a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger)—and his newly reformed deadly army will cross dimensions in order to execute on a plan that threatens the very existence of every Power Ranger ever. For the first time in comic book history, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will join forces with some of the most popular Power Rangers teams in the franchise to face the threat.
Let us know in the comments below what you think about Oblivion Song, Gideon Falls, and/or Shattered Grid! We want to know what you liked and what you didn’t like about these series.
Comic Book Recommendation
We are excited for the Avengers: Infinity War movie coming out this month! We have been waiting 10 years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe started and now we finally get to see all of our favorite Marvel heroes on one screen! To celebrate, we wanted to recommend two trade paper backs to get you ready for this movie!
First, we want to recommend Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos
This is a cool prelude to Infinity Gauntlet and really gets into why Thanos is collecting the infinity gems.
Here is a brief synopsis of Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos
The quest that led to Infinity Gauntlet begins here! Back from the dead, Thanos is after the power to bring the rest of the universe with him on a return trip! Can the Silver Surfer, Drax the Destroyer and others stop the cosmic iconoclast before he uses reality as a token of his affection for Death? Special guest-appearance by the Impossible Man!

Next, we want to recommend reading Infinity Gauntlet, this is a six-issue story that is simply amazing. This really shows how bad-ass Thanos really is! We don’t want to spoil anything, but this one is definitely worth checking out.

It’s the Avengers, the New Warriors, the X-Men and more against the omnipotent Eternal, Thanos! The Mad Titan has become the most powerful being in the universe, and enslavement or destruction may be the only choices he gives it! The successive Starlin sagas that shook space and time start here!
