New Thor Ongoing Series in 2020 | Marvel Comics

Big Marvel Comics news from NYCC 2019! Writer Donny Cates (Venom, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Redneck, too many to list) and artist Nic Klein are taking over Thor. We will get a new Thor #1 in January 2020.

New York Comic Con had a ton of amazing comic book news this year, but one of our favorite stories out of this years NYCC is the news of Donny Cates and Nic Klein taking over Thor. Jason Aaron had an amazing run over the years on Thor and it seems we can expect a lot of changes from his King Thor series to this new Thor series from Cates.

This definitely looks like a darker take on Thor. Looking at the cover of issue #1, we see Odinson’s eye restored along with his arm. Odin’s ravens are also seen in the cover which leads to more questions. We will have to wait until January 2020 to see what big changes Donny Cates has in store for readers.

During a Marvel panel at NYCC 2019, Cates held up Mjolnir to show he is worthy to take over the new series. He also had this to say:

“In all my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined a world in which I was worthy of writing THOR. From Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, all the way to the legendary run I am so foolishly following by the great Jason Aaron, it is beyond an honor to enter the golden halls of Asgard, and to pave the path (Far beyond the fields we know…) for the Thunder God himself. Know that you will have my best, true believers. For all of you. For Asgard. Forever.”
